Trash Films - 1 Day Skate Wank.

Its been quite some time since I've seen or even heard from the infamous John Waddell, the creative mastermind/piece of behind NZ's best snow film, 'Cheated'. All be it, that it came out 3 years late.

Hes been lurking around wellington wearing crazy clothes, and occasionally filming skateboarding by the looks...

Anyway, heres a 1 day Trash Visual SkateWank, with Harry Wilson.

Booter time.

Had a pretty amazing day yesterday. Woke up feeling slightly hung over from too many beers, dew to Stef Zeestratens Birthday Celebrations, and the circle of death. Got a call that it was on to go build/shoot a jump with the boys from Distracted Media.

We headed out past Copper, towards Leadville and dug our selves a driveway, off the highway.

Crew getting ready

The distracted boys had previously built this spot, but had trouble with the speed, and had built the jump a bit kooky. We had a massive crew of almost 10 people working on it this time, with both skiiers and snowboarders building in harmony. Whilst the snowboarders shuvelled, the skiiers worked on the run in. The result being a 12 foot tall, 8 foot wide booter, with about a 70 foot gap to the knuckle. LEGIT.

The work of art.

The level of riding was pretty amazing. The skiiers absoloutley killed it, with everything from 10's, to double flips going down. Jamie Culp, a.k.a the Culpirt, slayed it on a snowboard, with some steezy back 7 tails, and a dope front 7 off the toes. Matto Smith was there, but couldn't ride as he has a twekaed ankle, hopefully we can hit this spot with him soon. For now, heres a sneak peak of the jump!

Someones dog scopes the jump...

Gotlieb + Rainbows.

Woke up this morning to blue sky, and about 15 fresh. Headed up to Breckenridge with Mitch Brown, and met Shelly Gotlieb up there too. Had a super fun morning, riding the park with a little fresh on top, plenty of shuckers were had! We then went and scoped out a few tree jibs. Theres some pretty burly stuff built in some pretty secluded areas.

Shelly and a rainbow

Shelly hit this rainbow up a few times. After about four hits, she got a little squirly and got bucked onto the inside, her arm wrapping a tree on the way out - Resulting in a pretty gnarly gash. But Gotlieb shows no pain... 2 hours later after a trip to Breckenridge Emergency Centre, Shelly now has 11 more stiches for the collection!

This is what happens when you play with rainbows...

Playing with Rocks.

Phwoar. Back into shooting. A couple of days back I had a full day scoping out Copper Mountain, found a few little nuggets to play on. Started ticking off the list today, with Mitch Brown. After a late start, and a cheap feed & coffee at the Edge we went and shot this Rock. Super tight little tranny, pointy crazy coloured rock, with a rock beside it that could eat you for breakfast.

We shot it for a wee while as the light came in and out, and mitch shredded it both regular, and switch! great success.

Sledding + Veil Pass

My first few days in Colorado have been pretty eye opening. Theres so many close resorts, with such good terrain. Had a pretty amazing day yesterday. Got to go sledding in the back country for the first time. Matto Smith and I hooked up with the local boys from Distracted Media, and went out to Veil Pass.

Veil Pass Car park

We towed out back in hope of building a jump, but it clouded over, so the decision was made to go find something to jib.

Matto & Scott, Scoping

We went scoping for a nice tree bonk, but came across this Jetty on a frozen lake, and couldn’t resist.

The Set Up

Dug out the Jetty, built a kicker, and after a few sled tow ins across the lake, it was on. A few hammers went down, got a tight sequence of Matto doing a super steezy 5-0 180 out. Along with some airs right over the whole dock.

Scott Back1's over the jetty

I also met up with kiwi crew in Frisco today. Mitch Brown, Stef Zeestraten, Kendal Brown and James Hamilton are some of the NZ team staying there at the moment. Unfortunately Stef got broke off today, shooting for a Dutch Mag, doing some ligament damage in his ankle. But he’ll be back charging within a few weeks.

Will hopefully start shooting with Mitch within the next few days…

Burton Lightbox.

Heres a sneak peak of a Burton Light box I shot that will be popping up in Cheap Skates Wanaka this coming winter season. It was from a shoot that Burton set up at Coronet Peak last year. Burton hired out the mountain, and set up a tonne of features, while a bunch of people rode the mountain at night.

Robett Hollis and I shredded around frantically trying to cover all the features. Turned out that this rock stall took the cake. Pretty dope to see a New Zealand rider instead of International team! So go to cheapies and have a look when its up.

Colorado Yayer!

After relay of buses, trains and planes that lasted almost 26 hours I arrived at Copper Mountain, Colorado, USA last night. Was a pretty rediculous trip, but made it in one piece, with an amazing sunset at Denver.

I'm staying in Copper with Matto Smith. Mattos Grooming here at Copper, keeping the park tidy, and repping it hard! The Parks real dope, lots of progression, and heaps of options. Rolled up last night and went to the bar, IN THE GROOMER. thats how we do...

Me Matto & His Buddy.. Fancy rock climbing?

Had my first day on the hill today, bluebird, got real burnt, and just shredded the park for fun. Theres tonnes of snow and plenty of stuff to shoot for the coming weeks.. heres some fun photos from today.

WildCat Park Fun...

Chair Riding Fish shot anyone?

London.

Been a while since I've posted about my travels. Am in Winchester at the moment, spent the day in London today being a tourist. Pretty much went everywhere on the Monopoly board. Was still nursing what seems to be a two day hang over, but the weather was amazing, and great times were had.

Am off to Denver tomorow, back into the snow buz, and back shooting photos. Have close to 24 hours of trains, buses and planes ahead of me, so im off to sleep.

I really cant believe this, but this is the second blog I've done with a photo of a giant clock. enjoy.

Me & a giant clock. sweet.

Revolver Jam #2

From the looks of it, the Revolver Jams at Gorge Rd in Queenstown have been going off, the 2nd Jam happened last weekend. I've had various reports from people about the sick riding thats going down. There is a good scene brewing! I decided to poach some photos from Dave Coulsons Facebook, and nip some words straight from the comical Seb Kemp about the event.

Seb Kemp Reports:
We had the second revolver jam at the weekend. It was just like the frew jam but on home turf )and nearer to the bottle store). Boys picked it up. Everyone was throwing down. Kelly Mcgarry threw his mcgazza roll, Brett Frew was back riding (and doing so as effortlessly stylish as ever), Beaver muncher was going as nuts as ever (including best line of the weekend - mega transfer to flip), Finney and his mate Chris managed to only get mildly pissed the night before so they were throwing it all including the bars, Karl moved to queenie and has been slaying the trails on the bmx. he rides like he is riding totally different transitions becuase he goes SOOOOO high. Thats about it from the big bike boys cause there was alot mor bmxs than before. But as usual Matty was on the mic making inappropriate innuendos about kids and sausages.

The McGazza Bazza.

Seb Kemp loop.

Brett Frew with one of the most clicked one foot flats. ALL STYLE

Word is a pump track has also been shaped at Gorge Rd, it was meant to replicate a penis, how ever it came out looking like a kidney bean. Go figure.

Gobi Desert - Mountainbiking in China

Its been on the internet for a while now, but I feel its worth a mention. Rip.tv has a teaser up of a trip to China with Cam McCaul and Darren Berrecloth. There is also a good write up on Freeride Entertainments site. Seems they are putting there money to better use than filming wrestling intros. The footage is the closest that I can relate to snowboarding, and some of the lines are pretty redic! Big Mountain, Mountainbiking. Go look.

Go check it out at Rip -

Hype Foundtaion

www.hypefoundtaion.com

Its been online for a while now, but it seems that the site is about to tick into gear. Murray Galbraith and Anthony Leffelaar are the founders of The Hype Foundation.

The site seems to be all about self promotion and networking - promoting and profiling riders + media within a few different core sports. It seems like a good cause, and some of the features so far are pretty interesting.

It also looks as if they have plans to produce weekly videos for Method.TV this season. If you check the current clip on the site you can even see me ffilming for the Tuition Edition last season. More on the hype as it drops...

Simeon Patience Website.

Poached straight from his facebook, Simeon Patience has just launched a new website. His photography is extremely inspiring, and is always a pleasure to see. Theres even a couple of push bike photos in there... Make sure you go check it out.

Beer & Chocolate.

Germany definately has there beer, bread, sweets and chocolate on lock... I've been constantly full since I arrived.

Am making the most of a constant internet connection, and a break from shooting, working on some back end work for Zeros&Ones. Everythings lining up nicely, News as it comes...

For now, heres some random photos to sum up yesterday...

Bliss

Country Side

We went for a walk in a forrest. We sore a deer. I sat on a rock.

We went to a lake. These old people were loving it.

Sunset, Ducks, Lake, Great times

Matthias Orlea, and the lake.

Quiet Chaos

I've been meaning to post an update about Quiet Chaos for some time. Lester Perrys been busy, and this dope Kiwi brand is starting to make some power moves.

Every VICE issue in ‘08 will have a themed full page Quiet Chaos ad, these will pick up on a recent controversial or current event and have a bit of fun with it.
Each ad will coincide with the release of a limited edition tee shirt (15 only) following the same theme. Tee shirts will only be available to win via our website (www.quietchaos.co.nz) and only 10 will be available to win.

This first issue for 2008 kicks things off with a bang, the 'TUHOE Hunting Club' advert, bringing to light the police raids on the Tuhoe people on Oct 15 2007. The ad has already brought us a lot of exposure, with entries to win the limited edition tees flowing in, and my email inbox stacking up with feedback from punters on the concept, a couple from TUHOE descendants too!

Part 2 hits stores early march and the ad while being very different to part 1 will still raise a chuckle, info when its out.

Go to http://www.quietchaos.co.nz/news.php to check out some pics and more details....

Ken Block SnowPark Video.

Some of the first footy from DC's shoot with Ken Block at the snowpark has just hit the web. I did a post about the antics that went down with the rally car earlier. Anyway, go check this footy, its pretty rediculous.

Germany.

I somehow managed to make it to Germany yesterday afternoon, yeow!

Had an interesting night in Tokyo before my departure. Ended up taking a train into Tokyo with not much plan, and no where to stay. I somehow managed to stumble accross a dope hotel, for a very reasonable price. If you have to stop over in Tokyo, Jump on the train on the Keisei Line, and get off at the Narita stop. Stumble for about 8 minutes in the rain untill you find the Narita Kikusui Hotel. For about $50 you get a really nice room, free breakfast buffet, and airport shuttle. - http://web.travel.rakuten.co.jp/portal/my/info_page_e.Eng?f_no=4978

Me enjoying two of the best things in Japan. Okonomiyaki whilst in a massage chair. Tokyo Airport.

I'll be traveling around Europe for around a week, before heading to Denver to meet up with Matto Smith. At the moment I'm staying with Matthias Orlea who helped produce 'How About It'. Our plans are pretty vague, but they will involve a bit of travel around Germany hopefully. I should be able to knuckle down and get a bit of computer work out the way.

Hyyyynnneeerrrr

Nick Hyne has a sweet hat.

Feeling slightly seedy from a few too many whiskeys the previous night, the call was made to have a day of chillin. After a late wake, a few dvds, a big bowl of rice and tuna, Nick Hyne and I decided to go for a stroll to look for something to shoot in the mid arvo. After wallowing around a few blocks, we found something a bit different. And some trickery went down. It was a slide. It was metal. and It had a pile of snow at the end. Heres a sneak peak.

The slide, the pile of snow. and hyners sweet hat. The hammers went down.

Roadside

Its been really productive shooting the last couple of days, and yesterday was no exception. Hyner has joined the crew bringing some light hearted humour where needed. We decided to go shoot some road side stuff, just off the Nakayama Pass and somehow managed to score another blue bird day. More goods in the bag.

First stop was a bunch of avo barriers all within one really small zone. We pretty much rode every line possible within the small zone, and a couple of hours later we were done.

Hyne and Will J, Road side shredding.

We then moved on another twenty mins down the road to a pretty famous mush line. Joel Wescott scored the cover of the 2nd issue of last years NZsnowboarder on this mush, how ever it has less snow on it at the moment so the theres a lot more mushies and the line is a lot more gnar! Jackways stomped the shit out of it. Was one of the most impressive lines I’ve seen..

Will J, Scoping his line.

On the hike out Hyner and I got mesmorised by a very picturesque creek, and hyne got tempted to balance on a deceiving snow mush. I’ll let the picture do the rest of the talking.

Hyne takes a seat.

And sore some crazy light as the sun set at about 4:30. Im outa here real soon, fly to Tokyo tomorow, and fly to Germany Sunday, Updates soon.

Jibbing

Heres a coupla sneak peaks from the sapporo streets. A few kiwi crew are starting to arrive in Japan. RMB and Blair Findlay are up in Niseko, Hyners rolling through, some hammers should go down.

Lee & Abby digging out a down rail...

Will J back 50'd this first hit.. and switch 50'd a few times.

Syonara Niseko

Had my last day in Niseko yesterday, and the weather decided to turn it on for the whole day! which is really rare. Infact its been the only full blue bird day in my months stay there. Was pretty amazing, got to actually see all the surroundings of where we’d been living.

We all hit Niseko, and had a super fun day riding. Will J and I snuck off andMe Will J and Abby, Centre Four Lift, Blue Bird, Yotei!

Took advantage of the rare blues, getting a couple of sneaky cornice drop shots, Jackways throwing down the hammers as usual.
From Left, Lee, Abby, Will J, Blair & Kate. Top of Hirafu

I'll be in and around Sapporo until the 9th. Will hopefully get some shots with Will J and Abby. Having a day looking round the city today, and then shooting for the next 3 to get some jibbing hammers.

Jackways

Will J, Abby Lockhart and Lee came up to Niseko from Sapporo last night, we're all bunking in one room at the Pinkhouse. I havn't shot much with Will so far so we were booked in to get down to business. Today was rediculous. I'd go as far as saying my best day since I've been here. Myself, Will J and Blair Findlay went and hit some road side cliffs that Will had been eyeing up for a while.

Road Side Cliffs, pick your line...

We had sunlight for a couple of hours which was incredibly therapeutic and ofcourse Will J laid down the hammers putting down 3-4 lines within the zone, inclduing a dope stale gap, double line, half cab double line, front one and front 3. Will Jackways never ceases to amaze me. We got a couple of bangers in the bag, pretty stoked.

A sneak peak of one of wills double lines...

Reason Films Website.

The lads over at Reason Films have just dropped a new website. The sites super simple, and clean, but effective.

Bugs at Reason produced a bunch of episodes for method.tv from last season, which were real dope, interesting content and tight production standards. I believe they're doing clips for method this season too, so all in all its safe to say there will be alot of fresh NZ snowboard content hitting the web this winter!

www.reasonfilms.net
