Wanaka Wastebusters Documentary

Wanaka Wastebusters Documentary

After having a little nosey at the Enviro schools programme which I blogged about a few weeks back, It got me interested in spreading the message about sustainability and aiming for a world with zero waste. I decided to start the ball rolling by producing a small documentary on Wanaka Wastebusters, an amazing local recycling business which has grown rapidly and is spreading into many different sustainibilty projects. Check it out.

QuikSilver Shop Opening

Nick Hyne and Robett Hollis at the Quicksilver shop

Friday night sore somewhat of a blow out take place. Quicksilver opened a brand new shop in Queenstown and kicked it off with inviting a few of the industry in for some drinks and a browse of product. The shop is pretty amazing! The Mayor of Queenstown even turned up, made a speech and got given a custom snowboard painted with rainbow waves.

It was one hell of a good night as we moved on from the shop to the afterparty. Queenstown was buzzing with the opening of the Winter Festival. We're doing a giveaway with QuickSilver/NZsnowboard.com to win some vouchers, get on over here, watch the video, and email in where the shop is located to be in to win. Hoorah!

Handle WIth Care - 48 Hour Film Festival

Over summer I had the pleasure of meeting Sebastian Solberg. Seabass was my assistant whilst shooting The Summer of Surfing for Hyundai, and is a talented little bastard with alot of energy. Whilst I was living in Auckland he invited me to join him and his school mates to work on the V 48 Hour film festival. It was a laugh and made me feel like I was in school again. The film had to include: Line of dialogue: 'It doesn't fit' Prop: 'Rock' Character: 'Alex Puddle the Exaggerator' Genre: 'Politically Incorrect'

Enviroschools New Zealand

Enviroschools New Zealand

Last week I went and had a look at an Enviroschools workshop held in Wanaka. Enviroschools is a programme that is being implemented into schools around New Zealand, teaching our youth to act and make an effort towards sustaining our enviornment. I think its a great programme and an important part of our future. It looks like funding may be cut next year so Nick Holmes from Splashroom has just made the above video to inform politicians that Enviroschools isn't just a kit, it's apart of lives and communities, and to show the importance of education for sustainability.

Joram Makuru

I've been hanging out with the one and only Joram Makuru quite a bit lately - the grommet with an infectious attitude and estatic laugh. Jorams a 17 year old Rarotongan shredder who you may of seen featuring in a few of my episodes and a couple of my photos. At 17 Joram is one of the most stylish grommets in the NZ snowboard scene and is showing alot of potential. Last Friday we went up Cardrona in the attempt of getting some photos, unfortunately the cloud came in but we still had a blast, and got a couple of cool shots. Episode one of Down Under Diaries will be dropping shortly which will feature Joram, keep those eyes peeled.

Zeros&Ones x Mountainwatch.com Snow Report

Heres some more fresh news for you all. Alot of people have been asking what happened to Newsweek. Newsweek was a show I produced last year, updating everyone on the New Zealand snowboarding scene weekly. This year this programme is being replaced with me shooting the Mountainwatch.com New Zealand Snow Report with Robett Hollis. We've had a few teething problems in the early days but the first episode is online. You'll be able to tune in every Friday morning, catch up on what we've been doing with our other programmes, and see in depth weather analysis for the up and coming weekend. Future maps will feature weather forcasts from Friday through to Sunday. Big thanks goes out to our friends at Mountainwatch.com

Wide Open Team Profile Video - Kelly Mcgarry

Wide Open Team Profile Video - Kelly Mcgarry. from Zeros&Ones on Vimeo.

Poncho Madness, Coffee & the Super Cuzzy.

Last year in the week prior to Christmas, I tripped up to Nelson and spent a week hanging out with Kelly Mcgarry. We endured a week of rain and wind whilst trying to film some bike riding. It was testing times that resulted in us drinking alot of coffee ( nothing new ) copious amounts of beer ( enough said ) and entering the 500gram steak club. ( do try it ) Kelly got broke off more than once, bikes got snapped, and we lost the plot. How ever, we got a few clips to put on the internet, so enjoy!

Manual 34

I got my hands on a copy of the latest Manual yesterday afternoon, around 5:25pm right as the Paper Plus doors were closing. As per usual Manual never fails to deliver the goods, it is such a rarity to see a magazine thats production standards never slip. Pretty proud to say it is our country's own. Go support these guys, and buy the mag. It's a very interesting read.

Whats even radder, is in conjunction with the bright ideas article in the mag, the Irrom lads put out this video, which is hosted on Manuals website. Very Nice.

Joram Makuru

Joram Makuru just sent through these shots of him shredding on his bmx. Joram seems to be the man of many talents, and takes to anything put beneath his feet. The images were taken by Beach Thurlow Meyer, who also happens to be a very talented fellow. The grommets are getting creative!

Our Partner in Crime - Robett Hollis.

Heres some big news! I am no longer producing MDTV for Mountaindew. After 2 successful seasons, and 40 episodes that have screened all over the world we are replacing MDTV with NZsnowboard.tv. NZsnowboard.tv will be the internet based programme, documenting the New Zealand snowboard Scene.

We headed up to Mt Hutt on the weekend and shot our first episode, which is basically about how much fun your first day shredding can be. I'll be dropping the episode tomorow, for now heres a few happy snaps.
