zerosandones.co.nz

After a few set backs on the Zeros&Ones website, I'm happy to say that construction is finally under way. Chris Arnison is working on throwing the site together as we speak, and it should be alive within the next few weeks. So Spread the word! www.zerosandones.co.nz

Queenstown SkatePark

As I was browsing Manual Magazines website, I stumbled accross some news about the new Queenstown Skate Park. Theres about 5-6 weeks of construction left to go, so it should be ready for some hung over winter skating!

It's a modern plaza style park, complete with a water feature. And there's word of a bowl being built too. Icannotwaittoseethisthing.

The Queesntown Skate Park in Construction.

Soldiers + Heavenly.

We went down to South Shore last night, with the plan of shooting at Heavenly today. A 30 pack of dirty mexican beer seemed to dissapear rather quickly, and we all proceeded in getting blindy drunk, due to Chris Blinkhornes 23rd birthday. ( How ever we later found out that it was his birthday in NZ, not USA!)

This morning serving really severe hang overs we stuck with the plan and hit up Heavenly. The Marketing staff sorted our passes so we could go shoot in the Soldiers Park ( Thanks Heavenly! ) I had no idea what the whole Soldiers thing was about, but its pretty dope. They set up a rad park over Spring, and have a couple of big camps there. Hang out, shred, and get gnarly. Some of the features were pretty burly, and alot of them were very original. Interesting to see where the parks are heading.

Brian Blunts to Fakie on the side of one of the Soldiers Features

We then went for a hunt around the hill to look for some fresh stuff to shoot, found a rad little pole Jam, Spencer (aka Exposure ) & Bevan Hall jammed the shit out of it.

Bevan prior to jamming the large shaft.

In other news, Mitch Brown rolled into town a couple of days back, and Robett Hollis leaves in a few. The next few weeks will be spent working with Mitch to get some fresh shots.

Me at the top of the top of the tram - Thanks for the assistance Heavenly!

How About It Review + Gallery - Decline Magazine.

After getting the heads up from Ben Finney, I went and had a browse through Barnes & Nobles whilst shopping in Reno. Picked up a copy of the latest Decline Magazine, and pretty stoked to see we got a How About It Review + I got a couple of Gallery shots in there.

The How About It Review runs about half a page, and is all really positive, although the writer seems to think New Zealanders are all over cricket. It is one of two Reviews, the other being from one of mountain bikings most prestigious film makers Alex Rankin, and his latest Film - The Law Of Fives - I.e Earthed 5. Pretty stoked to rate along side...

How About It Review - Decline Magazine

A couple of my shots of Ben Finney and Paul Needham also ran in the gallery, pumped! Make sure you go buy a copy and have a geeze!A couple of stills I took during How About It. Ben Finney + Paul Needham

Happy Birthday Mr Frew

Brett Frew had his 30th Birthday Celebrations down on the Farm last weekend, and by the looks far too much fun was had - so I decided to get some dodgey english bastard to spit hot fire, and stole some pics from facebook ( thanks Dave, Joanna, Devin )

Seb Kemp Reports:

Somehow Brett Frew is now 30 years old. Im not implying that hes lucky to of made it that far, what i'm saying is that it is amazing that he is thirty years old but still looks as young a grom. To mark this chapter in Bretts life he decided to have a shindig down on The Farm. The theme...heavy metal rock!!!

Brett & Leticia.

Brett Frew + bike + drunk metallers + sunset = magic

Alot of the Queenstown Huck Squad made the trip down at the weekend for two days and nights of heavy metal mayhem. It was hard to decide whether people were more excited about riding at The Farm, partying hard, or dressing up in torn denin. It was an equal mix really as most people decided to get into their outfits before even getting to The Farm, hit the booze on the drive down, and then ride all weekend in full costume and bourbon streaming through their veins.

Hot Babes

Brad & Burt

Ben Finney & Horns

As always what happens on the Farm once the sun goes down stays on The Farm.
Honourable costume mentions go to Foz for letting it all hang out, Chris Weekes for going tranny metal, and Dave Coulson for looking so authentic it was like he wasnt even dressed up at all.

Happy birthday Brett!!!!

B Pop + Trash + Forrest.

Not too far away from the bottom of Northstar, theres a sweet little jib set up just off the side of the road. Theres a junkyard at the bottom of a forrest, and all the pieces of junk seem to have slowly migrated up the hill into some crazy little jib runs. A super fun set up.

Yesterday we spent the whole day there with a massive crew, downing a few beers, talking smack, and filming some fun stuff on the jibs. A whole tonne of different lines went down and got a bunch of real fun stills.

From left: Rmb, Neale, Blair Findlay, and Robett

The highlight of the day definately went to Chris Blinkhorn. A ghetto ply + pellet tranny was made up against a trailer for stalling, well so we thought. Chris blinks bought the B POP out and boosted a solid 4 foot outa that tranny. Was so redic!

Ghetto Tranny. A few dope stalls went down + A massive air to fakes by Blinks!

I even wallowed in there and popped over a bin a few times.

To end heres an image to sum up a an amazing day day, just like Donner Pass, this place is ridiculously fun, and we will be back to ride/shoot some more.

Donner Day 2.

Headed up Donner Pass again yesterday, with RMB, Chris Blinks, Andy K, Creames, and Blair Findlay. I've never been to a place with so many options in such a small area, and theres no better time to hit it than spring. Wait till 11 for everything to start de-thawing and the spring jumps are on!

Blair Findlay & Chris Blinks started the day with two different takes on the ole tunnel drop. Blair dropped to the riders left into the rather flat 3 foot tall tranny like so -

And Blinks dropped to the riders right into a super snipe 2 foot tranny like so -

We then missioned through one of the oldest tunnels in America, out to near the Sugar Bowl car park. The Tunnel was pretty amazing. With ice lining the whole floor and crazy rocks lining the wall and roof. I shot a bunch of stuff with Blinky just walking.

Blinks at the start of the tunnel.

The reason for heading through the tunnel, was to go to a cornice and build a step up that Andy K had been eyeing up. Turned out the said step up was not so on, but we had a fun arvo session on the cornice, blinky through down some redic rodeos, rolly backlipped the bitch, and i fell over doing some turns.

From left: RMB, Blair, Blinks & Creames.

After Pissing around for a few hours, the boys moved on to building a gap through a dope old tree. A real good sesh was had. Andy K and Rolly threw down with some dope tappers and back 1's. great success.

RMB and the tree gapper.

We then bounced outa there about 5 oclock, and got to ride some rad chutes on the way out, discovering even more lines. Rolly and I shot this wallride really quickly, the tranny was a little funky, but rolly made it happen.

Definately loving spring in Tahoe, we're shooting today so updates soon!

Old News with Seb Kemp.

I've been rarking up the one and only Seb Kemp in an attempt to some some more bike content happening on this here blog, I must say the task has been hard, but heres some inside old news from the one and only:

Seb Kemp Reports:

Aaron Clutze, Phil Sandbum, Eric Porterpotty, Clay pigeon porter, and Justin Leov all came through Queenstown as some sort of summer of shitting the bed filming tour. The yanks got spooked at mini dream and didnt ride much once Beverland started doing flips on the hip and Kelly spun on said hip. Then they went down to the Frew Farm and didnt ride the big line. Im not dissing them, cause i didnt meet them. To balance things out i will say that Sundbaum was doing ridiculous stretched super seaters on the trickasaurus at gorge road.

The majority of Queenstown trails riders made the pilgrimage to Henry Deverhowyouspellit's trails in Dunedin only to be rained out the first day then blown out (by the gale force winds that is) the second day. Everyone has sworn to return.

Stoney Hill trails.

The last Revolver Jam happens on the 29th March. Should be mental. Talking of revolver, Finney took on a bunch of Maori rappers who were playing there which instigated the biggest riot in Queenstown history.

Seb and the Lads are hitting the Frew Farm this weekend for Bretts 30th, and perhaps down to Dunners for the Stoney Hill Trails, hopefully we'll get some text and pretty pictures up here about what went down. To finish up heres another photo from Seb - Karl + Turndown = magical.

Revolution Magazine # 12

Issue # 12 of Revolution Magazine has just dropped, and its got an article on the Frew Farm Jam that I shot/wrote. ( Pretty similar to spokes article ) Heres the cover & blurb below.

Issue 12 sees Alex Quirk scores our first gloss cover. Inside we suss out where Tom Patton is now after his massive fall, Simon French takes on the 4x versus dual debate and theres pieces form Paul Begg, Niki Gudex, Bryn Atkinson and Mr World Trail, Glen Jacobs. Jared Rando scratches the surface a little deeper, we check out Adam Nicholsons 'Dale and Alan Hepburns Banshee. For the racing crew theres a wrap up of the 4X season along with the National DH series and of course, all the action from Stromlo. There's a dirty big Dave West interview and you score an insight into Chris Kovarik and a backstage pass to the Intense factory for 2008. There's even some bangers from NZ's Frew Farm Jam. We rode the guts out of a few bikes and probably loved em, but then again we only pick bikes we dig... State by state news, a couple of fast rippers get profiled and Amiel signs off our biggest issue yet...

Play Grounds & Sniper Landings.

Had a dope day yesterday dispite the average weather. Chris Blinkhorn and I went into Truckee and met up with Blair Findlay and RMB. Got packed in the back of a blue pick up and went out in search of some stuff to shoot. We wanted to re visit the Squaw Kink that I shot T-wat on 2 years ago.

Ended up not re shooting the kink, instead we opted to bonk some play ground stuff, and had a fun little session.

RMB scares the kids away with this nasty nose bonk pop out. Findlay gets the shot.

After exhausting our ideas in the playground, it was time for a dirty Sev Elev feed. The boys wrestled slimey dogs down followed by Red Coloured Crisps, and decided it was time to move on. Time to scope out a Cliffy that Blinks had spotted.

The Cliff ended up being about 30 foot, to a super sniper tranny, with a tonne of woo. Very Legit! Blinks stepped up and dropped it like no other. The Compression on the landing meant riding out was a mission, but just over 10 hits later, blinky rode out clean. got another hammer still in the bag. yayer.

Chris BlinkHorn hiking the cliff to sniper tranny.

John Waddell / Trash Films.

I just got an email from John Waddell out of the blue. Johns one twistedly talented young man, who is responsible for 'Cheated' which I would say is the most entertaining NZ snow film to date.

Hes since tossed in the snowboard, and is making a skate vid around the show... Latest is that hes in Melbourne, wearing womens clothes and just straight killing it.

John shredding the skater

John also does the whole blogging thing, and it has some very intersting content. The latest being a clip of yours truely, from my younger, girthier days of entering the snow scene, im glad alot of things have changed since then!

New Zealand Dirt Jump Open.

Pretty dope to see more Dirt Jump Comps happening, not sure how its crowned the NZ DirtJump Open, but its sweet all the same... Rumour is Chris Beverland is having a Jam at his place the week before also, 2 comps in 2 weeks. tight!. Heres straight from the press release:

Woodhill Mountain Bike Park’s huge Transition Airfield will be “going off” on Sunday May the 4th for the first ever New Zealand Dirt Jump Open. Come and see an invitational field (and a lucky few wildcard entrants) trick it out on 3 huge doubles, a Wall Ride and two 40 foot shipping containers.

All battling for the grand prize of $1000. Check out http://www.bikeparks.co.nz/nzdjo.html for more info.

Blinks.

Went for a scope this morning with a bunch of of crew to find something pretty to shoot near the lake.

Found a rad little area near tahoe city, with a few lines and a dope pier. The rest of the crew opted to go ride up Northstar whilst Chris Blinkhorne and I stayed, with our eye on doing something on this pier.

Chris Blinks and the Pier

We once again found ourselves using a set of stairs for run in, but it all worked out real well. Chris blinks threw down some nice 5-0's, and presses. got a pretty original shot.

Hamms.

Well pour petrol down my throat and call me a lawn mower. My face is redder than the big dragon its self, and all I can say is that Tahoe has bettered my expectations already. The lakes pretty, the sky is blue, and the snow seems to be soft.

Went up to Donner Pass today with a crew, was a real eye opener.

Crew setting up, looking down on Donner Lake

Blair Findlay, RMB, & Andy K had built a jump the previous day. This thing is a pretty gnar step down hipper type do whacky, with about 60 feet of wind the windows down type air time.

Chris Blinkhorn jumps for joy. Robett Hollis reads time magazine under a rock?

A few hammers went down, on what became a really friggin choppy spring landing. Andy K started the party with a clean front 5 first hit, no bigge, and Chris Blinkhorn the Darkhorse threw down a sick back 7. great success. Deros got the vid in the bag, and theres some hammuh raws sitting on my hard drive.

Blair Findlay and RMB wrap it up

Big Maoris & Wire Fences.

Only a 6 foot Maori that roller blades, snowboards, and makes power moves could think of a line like this - Fire Cracker down some wood stairs, hook a turn on your heels, and boost off a shitty little pile of snow, straight towards a baseball net. Yeah. Robett Hollis somehow made it work, AND he was wearing jeans.

The Run in. Robett Hollis & Chris Blinkhorn get set up.

hands on hips?

Great Success.

Red Bull Gap Session.

Robett Hollis linked this video of the Red Bull Gap Session to me last night. The concept, riding, and filming is incredible. After watching T-Rices teaser, plus footy of this jump, it makes me wonder where the limits of jumping a snowboard are.. All I can say is bring back the big air!

Go view the vid at Transworlds site!

Tahoe Baby.

So I havnt posted anything snow related for quite some time. Colorado was epic, lots of riding and drinking, great times, thanks MATTO SMITH! On Thursday I left Colorado enroute Tahoe. Heres a bunch of scenics I shot just outside of Denver

The view from my motel near Denver Airport

More Scenics

Landscape.

Robett Hollis Picked me up from the Reno Airport in the NZsnowboard.com staff wagon, and a few hours later we had rolled up to Squaw. Inspiration was taken from a small snowboard located in our generous hosts living room, Kev Wini. Within 30 mins we were being silly buggers.

Chris Blink Horne. All Class.

Around 30 minutes later Blinky was being slung around behind Robetts Truck. Take a puddle, a tow rope, a sweet snowboard and you get -

Great Times

This morning Chris and I missioned it to Kings Beach mid blizzard, getting quite used to public transport whilst carrying way to many bags!

Me waiting for the bus...

We arrived at our humble abide, and have just settled in. Time to get productive over the next month!

End of an Era.

Well, theres been talk of it for a very long time, but its finally started to happen. Sadly, it seems most of the 'stunts' in Sticky Forrest are being removed. Sad to see so many hours as a hormonal grommet with a spade go to waist. Great memories.

I guess we can take this as motivation to build some fresh spots in Wanaka.

Playing with Rocks Part 2.

Today, Will Harris and I went to a Rock Ride I'd been eyeing up just outside of Frisco. Just one of thousands of dope road side lines. While you might only know Will has a boarder cross rider, hes a super solid rider, and really impressed me on this gnarly rock, shredding the big ole slab to pieces. I'm pretty sure we got a keeper.

Other highlights included some people trying to steal our gear from beside the highway when Will was about to drop in, and I was accross the road setting up my shot!

Will Harris about to play with the rocks

songsfromtheshred.com

I just stumbled accross this wee beauty. songsfromtheshred.com is a website that is a catalouge of almost every snowboard movie soundtrack to date. 129 Videos are listed so far, starting in the early 90's!

So if you've ever wanted to know what track that was in your favourite movie part, go there! They even link you straight to the itunes store, so go get it!
