Mcgarry

Just stumbled accross this image and the words below on NSMB.

Kelly McGarry got a raw deal on this hit. He tossed it so big that the ground literally gave away when he landed, and he slammed hard. Most would take their punches and bow out, but Kelly composed himself, shook out the dirt in his helmet (most of it anyway) and ripped the sickest backflip off the daunting table at the bottom, sending the crowd into orgasm. This just demonstrated that one run to prove your case was not enough. This is also where Gee landed in a bush, but somehow was able to pedal over it and regain composure over the last two big airs to finish his qualifier.

Justin Leov signs with Trek

One month following the announcement of the three Cross Country riders that will form half of the new World Cup team sponsored by Trek Bicycles, 23 Degrees Sports Management announces today that the downhill half of the new team will also be made up of three riders; two men and a woman. The two men will be Justin Leov (NZL) and Andrew Neethling (RSA), while the top level woman rider will be announced on December 1st.

Having just turned 24, Justin Leov is a highly accomplished rider who's had a great season in 2008; most notably his 6th place finish at the World Championships which was the best ever performance by a New Zealand man at the Downhill World titles. Justin has had a string of top 10 results over the past few seasons and therefore joins the team as a regular World Cup top 10 rider.

Also 24 years old, Andrew Neethling has impressed many in his past 3 seasons showing constant progression. His 6th place on the physical track at this year's Canberra World Cup (the venue for the 2009 World Championships), and his impressive top 10 on the steep and technical Schladming course in Austria, shows that 'Needles' has the potential to be top 10 on any course he races.

Team Director Martin Whiteley says: "Apart from always striving to run one of the most professional teams on the circuit, one of my goals has always been to take riders and give them the opportunity to shine and reach their absolute goals. Our previous two teams have satisfied both these goals, and in the case of these two talented top 10 riders and our new program, we will be giving them every opportunity to further improve on their results to date. With the first round of the World Cup in South Africa next year, we are thrilled to have a super competitive South African on the team, and we feel that our combination of two top ten men, and a top level woman, will put us in a good place to compete with the leading gravity teams for the coveted UCI DH Team trophy, something our teams have won 3 times before."

Trek Mountain Bike Brand Manager Michael Browne says: "Trek believes that the Session 88 is the best downhill bike on the market with exceptional technology that spans the breadth of the Trek suspension line-up. Trek also believes in the power of racing to both prove the solvency of, and further evolve, a product. We are happy to offer the best downhill bike to an elite roster of athletes. Like Trek, these riders only want to outperform their competitors. We look forward to the challenge that lies ahead."

Further details on the team's female downhill rider will be released on December 1st, and details on the team's co-sponsors and race schedule will be released at a later date.

Didymo is nasty stuff.

Frienz Backpackers is in ChCh, smack bang in the middle of the city, brightly coloured rooms, hard beds, and quirky receptionists, choice.

If your in Christchurch you have to check out RevolutionNZ. This shop is flipping choice, so many good brands and more bright colours than the 80's. Ben Finney and I walked out with shopping bags of bits. Do it.

We popped into Scott Irvines in Gerladine. His private Trails are looking Gnar! Scotts just built up this Black Market to sell, SUPER LIGHT, one of the nicest looking/feeling bikes I've seen. Its for sale, Interested? Get in touch.

DMR Dirt Jam

Andrew Costain taking home the Bacon

The Dmr Dirt Jam/Official Opening of the Lismore Bike Park was a great success. There were tonnes of grommets that came out of the wood work and rode to a really high level. Its a great sign of a healthy future for the sport. Tonnes of prizes were thrown out, and lots of stoked kids and familes were there. I filmed a bit of footage for VorbTV expect to see that in one of there episodes in the near future.

Tripping.

We're already back from Canterbury after a quick mission up to help out with our friends over at NZskier. It was a rad trip with lots of good food, sunshine, and slush. There is still a solid snowbase at Mt Hutt! Back in Wanaka for the Lismore Park Opening/Jump Jam, then heading back up to Christchurch on Sunday.

Will Jackways enjoys the view, the Mackenzie distric is always a good drive.

New Zealands Hydro Dams are epic.

Hamish Acland raves about a Sushi joint in Tekapo. We had to see what the fuss was about. It did not dissapoint. Will Jackways gets it done, Jossi Wells watches.

I had the tekapo roll. 8 pieces of double layered sushi with everything in it. Hammers!

Its a big Salmon.

Acland threw down for the boys, with cooked breakfasts on the farm and home made packed lunches for the hill. Word.

Summer Toys

Its definitely getting warmer, the crazy north westerlys are slowly dying off and the summer toys are coming out. I'm still editing the Development SnowParks DVD for John Melville. It is close to completion how ever my computer doesnt want to spit it out. I'm on the road for a couple of days, any inquiries get at me on my cell phone.

John with his 08 KTM 450. No kick start, throws flames, and sounds good.

A photo of Dan Mcmullan used in Nick Frames Brochure for his luxury house.

A couple of images of the Jump that John at Development Snowparks built for us last year.

I like cake.

Whilst the last thing I wanna do is turn this into a celebrity gossip blog, this caught my eye. What could be better than Katy Perry jumping into a cake and kooking it?

Searching

I had the pleasure of hanging out with Dan Frew today. We went on a trip up towards Twizel to check out a bunch of stuff. The Southern Freeriders are going to be doing a demo at Area9 and it looks as if its gonna be one hell of an event. 30 of NZ's best bands, skating, zorbs, fmx and possibly other bikes if all things go to plan. Go get yourself a ticket!

Scoping bike stuff along the way.

Scoping

The last few weeks we've been on the soul finding missions. It always surprises me where you seem to end up when your scoping spots. Seb Kemps current facebook status says it all 'Seb Kemp is early morning strolls in the woods with a cuppa, unearthing secrets.'

I rode this thing for quite a few kilometres. Bizare.

Got lines?

DVD Trippin NZ

Earlier this season Will Jackways, Wherle Bird and Q did a week of filming/traveling for 'DVS Trippin NZ'. A show that screened on Fuel/Skuff I believe. They came out with a cool piece with a unique feel to it. Some EPIC pow turns.

Kelly Mcgarry

Kelly Mcgarry is starting to become a household name in freeride mountain biking world wide. The tall golden haired Nelson man has been working hard and getting his foot into the international free ride circuit. Kellys been ripping all the biggest competitions including Crankworx and Rampage. Not only this, but he has been getting major coverage at every event, both through stills and video. I'm stoked to be working with Kelly this summer. Want to support New Zealands best Freestyle Mountainbike Athlete? Get in touch.

Meet Kelly Mcgarry.

Steezed 3.

The Mcgazza bazza.

Kelly was selected for Rampage. Apparntly he was riding one of the gnarliest lines, but put it down in the one qualifying run. New Zealand summer redemption!

Chris Arnison

For those of you who have had the pleasure of meeting this young man, you'd wonder where hes been for the last year. After working on 'How About It', Chris seemingly dropped off the radar, but has been shredding bmx around Dunedin. He's got soooo much talent with a camera and computer and is years ahead of himself. There is a possibility he will be coming out of hiding this summer to work on a bike project.

Brilliant. Chris Arnison.

Ski/Snowboard Trade Show

The 2008 Ski/Snow Tradeshow is being held in Wanaka at the moment. John Melville and I went out for a looksy yesterday, got all hyped up on sugar treats and had a browse of whats on offer for the years to come. Its held in an air port hanger which was a real good set up.

From Left Mitch Brown and Karl Dunham. Karl was repping two contrasting brands, the new Rome and Technine range. Some pretty tight looking product.

From left Robett Hollis, Abby Lockhart and Mitch Brown.

Not every trade show that you see this on the walk in.

Tim Hales Wanaka Shredathon

Sat 15th Nov Wanaka Skate Park

I bumped into James Keane at lismore last night and got reminded of the Tim Hales Shredathon. It's gonna be held at the Wanaka skate park, $10 entry all proceeds go towards the SPCA & Wanaka Skate Park. People are coming from all over so make sure your there!

Scott Irvine

I got an email out of the blue from Scott Irvine, a ripper from Gerladine that I met at the Farm Jam who seemed to have the talent to turn down anything in sight. We shot his first published photo of him on the tight wallride inside the Frew Farm Woolshed. He's been working hard on his own trails which have come along way. Hopefully we will see a film trip there shortly. Props!

Ticking Over

Despite the annoying/traumatizing northwesterly wind we've been experiencing its fair to say that summer is on its way. The bikes are being dusted off, the pits are sweating and trails are being dug. I think its gonna be one exciting summer. I had a couple of days away in Queenstown this weekend and it was a bloody good way to click into bike time. Heres a few isnaps.

Brad Greenslade. A rather humerous man, providing great entertainment whilst digging, pulling out splinters or cooking on the barbie.

Joanna Bennet as the job as the Territory Manager for the lower South Island with Demon Energy Drinks. I was astounded to find out that they are a New Zealand owned company. Perhaps we will see Demon to good things!

Ben Finney and I scoped a number of spots out, and found a few interesting gems. Including this one.

I've got a new bike, will post some gaff up on this soon. For now a shitty riding photo of me. thanks finney!
