Gabe L'Heureux becomes Shaun Whites new manager

Gabe L'heureux & Stephen Duke. (photo: Robbie Sell )

I found this quite an interesting piece of news. Gave L'Heureux has now become Shaun Whites new Burton manager. Whilst most brands require a manager for several athletes, Shaun White has his very own, just for Burton. Follow Gave as he lives Shaun Whites life! Go bookmark his blog.

Dirt Jumping on a barge

Well, I don't know who dreamed up this idea, but my mind boggles at the logistics of making this happen! I believe its part of the latest New World Disorder film, 'Dust & Bones'. I like the idea of being able to move the jumps to what ever Iconic backdrop you please. Will be interesting to see what shots get used in the film.

Thurlow Meyer

Yesterday saw a cloudy Sunday that would mean I'd not only play golf with Beach Thurlow Meyer, but also shoot some skate photos.

I've blogged about Beach up here before. He's one of Wanakas shredding skaters, with an eye on every nook and cranny. We went and re shot a spot we'd been to before, along with christening a little wallride. Jeah!

Well, I decided to try something a bit different with this episode. The aim was to show what its like to rip around your local hill on a powder day. In New Zealand there isn't much time, so no tripods, lots of bro cam, and fast paced shuckers. We race up to Cardrona with Connor Harding, Stef Zeetraten, Robett Hollis and crew. Northface Heli shoot / Camping

New Zealand heli pick ups and Cow Pats go hand in hand.

This year I was given the opportunity to work with The NorthFace on a heli trip unlike any I have been on. Last year we heli'd up to Clarks Glacier to shoot their 2009 advertising, this year the concept was to heli into the mountains, ski and then camp out in the snow for the night.

Dispite having no new snow, and attrocious weather conditions forecast we had two guides that were keen to take us, and photos that needed to be shot. We manged to score a glorious blue bird day and the boys dropped a whole bunch of cliffs to icy landings.

What unfolded during the night was wild. Whilst bad weather was forecast it wasn't meant to hit until about mid day, it came in early and we were buffeted with gale force winds all night. I can't give away too much of the story but here's a few snap shots to give you an idea. Expect to see editorial and advertising for this trip around the show next year.

The terrain we had on hand. Amazing.

The Wes cam turned up in the arvo and was filming us for promotional purposes. This camera has been used for films like Lord Of The Rings etc.

Stephen Winnacott, the Marketing Manager gets some.

I hiked above our campsite to shoot sunset and got the token self portrait.

Speights Summit after an epic day, all grins.

After holding on all night this was the first photo snapped in the morning. Guidelines had snapped, pegs went flying and the only thing holding our tents down was our bodies.

When this is coming at you from one direction, and gale force winds from the other its time to move.

We manged to ride out to lower altitude and get a chopper out.

Imagery

I thought it was worth a little update of some of my recent imagery. Although my video/production work seems to be taking over my life, I am still shooting photos. I have a bunch of very exciting photo gigs this year which you will hear/see about later on. For now here's some recent published work.

Atomic Shoot

Olah! Time to kick this piece of internet back into action. I am now back at home base in Wanaka and am coming to the end of the Atomic photo shoot I previously posted about. We ended up spending 5 days in Canterbury and scored the goods at a few of the clubbies, then headed back to Wanaka to shoot Park and piste at Snow Park and Cardrona. Its been an epic shoot so far, our last day is wrapping up tomorow and the imagery will be coming out in the years to come. I can't post too much from our trip, but here's a few sneak peaks.

Dan Carr was the other photographer on the trip, he's over from Whistler for a month. Its been great bouncing ideas off another profesional.

The Broken River goods lift now takes people! It is one of the craziest experiences just getting to the base of the resort. Go get some.

We somehow ended up in a cave. Chris Benchetler has a looksy.

We had some incredibly windy days on the trips, but still managed to score some pockets.

A post to let you all know that there may be an absence of blogging for atleast a week. I'm just heading out the door for an 8 day photoshoot with the Atomic Ski team in Canterbury, I will then be back for the Burton Open. Expect big updates shortly. If anyone needs to get in touch, get at me on my phone.

Mons Royale

Mons Royale

A little while ago the one and only Hamish Acland hit me up for some images of athletes to market an underwear company he was creating called 'Mons Royale'. Whilst I was astounded at the concept and wondered about the logistics of producing such a product, he has pushed go and it launched this year all around the globe. The product and company seems legitimate enough to justify a blog post, how ever still waiting for my payment in undies.

NZsnowboard.TV - Alpure Peaks

On Saturday I was lucky enough to get a days filming cat boarding at Alpure Peaks. On Friday night myself, Will Jackways and Nick Brown made the trip up to Fairlie and crashed out at the Top10 Holiday park. We managed to score perfect weather, and pretty decent snow. It was a very unique experience and I would highly reccomend it to everyone. Below is the episode, followed by some behind the scenes pics! Big thanks to Don at Alpure Peaks.
