Developmentsnowparks.com

Heavy Time lapsing.. I've been using a combination of my HVX and D200 still camera to document the massive process of pipe building.

In my spair minutes I've been working on a project with John Melville. Mr Melville is the driving force behind Cardronas pipe, jumps and park. John designed the pipe cutter you see attached to the groomer, and we're making a short little doco piece on exactly how its used, which has involved some pretty crazy camera work. It should be a fairly intersting watch, and it might hit the internet at Johns companys website in the near future. We're also working on some more spring madness. More on this soon.

Stash number 5 to open in Austria

The Burton Stash - One of the most creative terrain park concepts in the world.

Burton are opening up another stash in Austria! The stash is pretty rad, and I'm pysched Burton is creating more of them. We went to the stash opening at the Remarks this year and filmed an MDTV episode which can be found at NZsnowboard.com and also online on the official Stash Website.

Ros Goulding Shoot.

Behind the scenes of Ros Goulding Photo Shoot.

This morning I went and shot some portraits & product shots of Ros Goulding for Spoke Magazine. Apart from the neighours cat getting run over whilst I was there, it was a really good refershing experience!

Ros creates Bags out of Old Bike inner tubes and Climbing Harnesses, weaving them like flax. Its really creative and the final product is pretty tidy. Its got me thinking about what we can do with rubber, and how many old inner tubes are out there.

Kelly Mcgarry to ride in the Rampage.

Our very own Kelly Mcgarry, Rolling deep!

The infamous Red Bull Rampage is back, the event that started all the sillyness in freeriding.

It will be interesting to see what unfolds. In Chris Arnisons words ' Will the new rampage be like the old one, where if you fell off a cliff with a bike attached you'd win? ' I think we will see alot of progression.

Kelly Mcgarry has been selected to compete which is a bloody huge achievement in its self. So stoked to see a New Zealand freerider up there with the rest of the world. Kellys booked his ticket to come back for summer, and he'll be taking part in a project I've got on the cards. Press Release for this shortly!

Beverland Compound Blog

The Beverland Compound.

I've been bouncing a few mails off to Chris Beverland lately, who's returned from Canada and is now up at home, just out of Huntly. Chris has a pretty sweet set up, which sore the Spoke/Beverland Jump Jam happen a year or two back. There is plans for another Beverland Jam sometime this summer, I'm planning on getting up there and shooting a bit in the near future.

Chris has joined the blog revolution, and has got one for all you need to know about the beverland compound. Check it

http://beverlandcompound.blogspot.com/

Chris all style in the back yard.
"Its been done" is an art exhibition planned for Sat 18th Oct with a dash of community spirit.
We hope to ask as many artists and creative types to donate a little of their time and effort to a good cause- the extension of the Wanaka Skate park.
Its aptly named, because, lets be honest people, painting on skateboards isn’t new, and well, neither is fundraising. Doesn’t mean it cant still be fun.
There aren’t too many restrictions, the biggest one being all artwork must be on USED skateboards, they can be broken, in pieces or in good condition we only ask that they are used in keeping with the theme of the exhibition, saving the planet, and also creating a bit more of a challenging medium to work with.
I am asking as many artists as possible, and am happy with this email being forwarded to anyone who might be interested, it’s a come one come all situation, the only hitch is that all boards are donated- unfortunately there can be no monetary benefit for the artist- but lets not forget the glory and experience!!
All the boards will be hung and exhibited in The Good Room. There will be an exhibition opening night, where all decks will be sold for the same price- most likely around the $50-60 dollar mark, so that they are attainable to both the young and old, you know we are big on accessible art here at The Good Room.
All proceeds will go straight to the Wanaka skate park, I intend to get as much sponsorship as possible to assist, so if you are someone who may be interested in sponsoring the event, please don’t hesitate to get in touch too!
If you need any decks to work on- please contact me also, as we have been gathering as many used decks as possible since this idea was just a seed, purely for this purpose.
This is just the first info sheet to get the word out there and get people excited and interested, Its been an idea in my head for too long now. There is plenty of time, and there may be a few changes along the road, but I think you get the idea for now.
If you have any questions, ideas or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me:

Finding the shot.

Seb Kemp at the Rave.

Well who would of thought, that whilst out scoping bike lines, we would come accross some sort of Hippy rave pit, where they gather in the masses. I believe the kind with Long dreads, hairy arm pits, marajuana and tye dyes have escavated this gulley out, and turned it into a place to party. Theres a dj booth, cigarette butt bin, stairs everywhere, and path dug in and out. Sensational!

Low and behold, we pushed passed the hippy pit, and found some convenient logs, I think you will see a very unique line come out of here.

After we were done with the pit, we continued on to various other locations, and even re united with an old jump spot we built for 'How About It'. Although theres not much left of it, this was a step down we built for Brett Frew. Dublin is a gold mine.

Printing The Shot

My latest possession, the HP Photo Smart C5280

In the world that we live in, every consumer owns a digital camera, and wants to do more with their images than look at them on a computer screen, one of the many effects of this technological transition is that the home printer Market has blowen up, with every brand trying to produce the best printer at the cheapest cost.

Recently I found myself in the printer market, and dove in not knowing anything about printers, walking into Dick Smiths and buying the one under the big Special sign. The HP Photosmart C5280. As a professional photographer I'm pretty fussy with my prints, and wasn't expecting much, but am stoked on everything that comes out of this pretty little machine.

How ever, no matter how cheap the printers get be prepared to spend alot on Ink, a Colour and Black and white HP Cartidge will set you back about $50.00, I'm already through one in my first 2 weeks. Nothing beats printing your own shots though.. Get involved!

Jossi Wells Shoot

Jossi Wells.

Yesterday afternoon I had a rather impromptu shoot with the one and only Jossi Wells. We were shooting Mr Wells in some fresh two10 Oakley gears and his new Atomic Skis, for some Oakley/Atmoic Catalouge style stuff in the Cardrona Pipe. Jossis been out for about 6 weeks after breaking his wrist doing a switch front flip at Snow Park, how ever he waisted no time lofting some huge alleoups. We shot the pipe for about an hour in the last light and got some pretty fresh stuff, Jossi Prooving how much of a professional he is. I've got alot of respect for Jossi, and would say he has achieved without a doubt, the most out of anyone in New Zealand Snow Sports. Respect.

Newsweek Episode 17

NZsnowboard.com Newsweek Episode 17 - Nick Brown, a talented fisherman.

Well, what can I say. We really do strive to get you an interesting story here at Newsweek. As the season comes to an end, we're relaxing and indulging in some of the activities that the Southern Lakes have to offer. For the second time in 2 weeks I have found my self riding these aqua bikes. I'm not going to lie, pedaling one with my hvx in my hands was a bit worrying, but all that was dropped was the fluffy off my mic ( Browner also fished that out ). Highlights include Browner catching a dead brown trout, A race to the Dual Image, and Browner taking a cold dip in the lake. Big thanks to lakelandadventures , great times! Go have a look for your self.

Lismore Bike Park mentioned in 'The Source'

'The Source' is one of Wanakas little flyer type things, with all sorts of going ons from around the community. I had a little chuckle when I noticed the Lismore Bike Park made the opening of Carol and Kimmys Gossip Column. Bonza!

Southern Freeriders Update

For those of you who don't know, Southern Freeriders is an organisation/club/group of riders headed by the Frew brothers Dan & Brett. Two men at the forefront of bike riding in New Zealand.

Dan's been cranking out a blog over here, and the Southern Freeriders official website is under construction.

I'll be unveiling more plans for bike Film Projects this summer shortly, which should see us doing a bunch with Southern Freeriders, the Farm Jam is going ahead, details on that as it unfolds.

Subway and Jarred

I'm not going to lie, when it comes to eating out, Subway is really close to my heart, and I feel like every time I walk in the door, Jarred and I are growing closer. No matter where you are in the world, subway delivers. During spring shredding in Tahoe this year, $5.00 foot longs were the savior of many a poor snowboarder, and now that the $3.90 6 inch has hit New Zealand, it has become a part of mine and many others diet. ( The fact that a 6inch fits perfectly in the top pocket of my camera bag is tops) Heres some Isnaphammers Imagery from subway.

Subway Geraldine, one of the best parts of the long drive to Christchurch. Tim Zeestraten stresses out over what sauces to pick. Just don't foget the parmesan, they won't offer it to you.

Here two stunningly good men cuddle with Jarred in Geraldine whilst some passionate subway customers enjoy their dinner.

Whilst we were at the local watering hole in Wanaka, Jarred popped out of no where for a catch up. Quite the social character.

Getting a photo with Jarred is almost compuslory. Bevan Hall was very excited about Jarreds Waistline.

Nick Hyne offers Jarred a Shooters beverage, unfortunately we found out Jarred can't handle his alcohol.

We'll be seeing Jarred again shortly, for now...

Sam Blenkinsop becomes first NZ Rider to Win World Cup

We all knew he had it in him, Sam Blenkinsop on his way to Winning the final round of the UCI Mountainbike World Cup. I can't wait to work with Sam & Justin this summer.

Wanganui’s Sam Blenkinsop has become the first BikeNZ rider to win a Mountain Bike World Cup title.

The 19 year old professional has won the final round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Schladming, Austria today.

Blenkinsop produced a stunning performance on the demanding and long Schladming course, which has already earned a reputation as one of the all-time classic courses in his just its third year of hosting a World Cup event.

The young kiwi sped down the course to beat off former world champion Sam Hill (Australia), current world champion Gee Atherton (Great Britain and World Cup leader Greg Minnaar (South Africa). He clocked 4:10.16 for his championship run to finish nearly two seconds clear of Hill with Atherton a further half a second back in third.

Fellow New Zealander and Fox Yeti team-mate Justin Leov (Blenheim) finished an impressive sixth place.

Blenkinsop, who was seventh at the world championships after qualifying top, was in excellent form coming into the third round of the World Cup after finishing fifth in Andorra, only the second New Zealander to make it on to a World Cup podium.

The highly demanding technical course in Austria has an extremely steep gradient with spectacular wooded sections, high speed open corners and a reputation for being unforgiving on any mistakes.

Canterbury Road Trip.

Our Canterbury Road Trip was a great success, we bagged a whole bunch of unique photos, had a bit of a holiday and relaxed. I'll be popping up a Photo Article for here & NZsnowboard.com shortly, for now heres some sneaks.

The foot mat says it all. Step through the door for a hearty feed at the Oxford Working Mans Club.

Lifestyle Magazine Cover, Llama Art. Amazing.

Ohau Images

Whilst I was at Ohau shooting the MDTV Burton Cake Bake off episode, I also dusted off my stills camera and snapped a few shots. It was my first time at Ohau and I was blown away by the beauty of the place, the whole resort looks straight down on Lake Ohau, and the Mackenzie Basin. This is definitley one of my favourite parts of New Zealand.

Ohau is situated in a basin with Steep Cliffs and Bowls in every direction of the main chair, this image shows the contrast betweeen Lake Ohaus Shorline and the Mackenzie Plains.

These chutes are within 20 minutes hike of the top of the chair, and are untouched for the majority of the year. Where is will Jackways when you need him?

We managed to score some fresh, I snapped a photo of a happy punter enjoying some turns, check out the MDTV episode to see the freshies in the powder 8's.

This image tells the story of the whole day, Epic September pow.

Ohau has one two seater chair, which lets you access the main bowl, a short 10 minute hike from the top and your at the summit, which opens up a variety of amazing terrain. The Burton Sign marks the bottom of the Banked Slalom Course.

I met up with Snow Planet Hero/Burton Grommet Leon Makay and watched in astonishment as he managed to link some turns in the Powder 8's. Afterwards we went and shot a few fun photos.

Believe it or not the Ohau Crew have even put together a little Park with some interesting features. Its rad to see clubbies making a good effort. Leon throws down a nose pick on an Electric Cable Reel.

One of the coolest features in the park was this hitching post. I'm definitley keen to film a session on it. Leon Blunts it out.

The Park Also has a few small jumps and hips, which are pretty fun, Dylan Butt and Joel Nichol were seen shredding some transfers. Leon bones out an Indy on one of the hips.

Theres been a few big slips around the place due to the heavy snow fall and warm temperatures. I couldn't resist shooting a photo in one of them. Leon firecrackers some ice.

This backdrop will never get old, Lake Ohau looks like an ocean from the top of the hill. Leon hikes out from below the pommer after the end of an epic day.

This backdrop will never get old, Lake Ohau looks like an ocean from the top of the hill. Leon hikes out from below the pommer after the end of an epic day.
One of the most appealing things is Ohau is just over 2 hours away from Wanaka, leave at 7, be there just after 9, then once the mountain closes your back home in time for dinner. How ever if you want to stay there, the Ohau Lodge is amazing, and the Nachoes are sick!. Do something different and check it out!
