The Birth of The New Zealand Snowboarding Union - NZSBU

Robett Hollis (right) having a laugh.

This is probably the best thing thats happened to New Zealand Snowboarding. A new union has been formed that should see things heading in the right direction, Robett Hollis took the initiative to get this thing happening, and is working his arse off. Two thumbs up. Heres the Press Release.

Kia Ora everyone,

Two years ago the New Zealand snowboarding scene was beginning to lose it governing body the NZSBA. As this decline in the NZSBAs ability to govern and support the sport of Snowboarding in New Zealand continued a few people began talking about the future of snowboarding in New Zealand and came to the conclusion that the New Zealand Snowboarding scene needed a voice to take over from the NZSBA.

Initially this concept was to be a Union that would operate separately from any governing bodies and become a direct voice for all participants in Snowboarding in New Zealand and provide support services and growth initiatives for the industry. Because of the dynamic and progression that exists in snowboarding we felt at the time that no current governing body would be able to provide the necessary freedom and tools to allow this Union to freely administer and grow snowboarding as it saw fit.

Times have certainly changed since the initial inception of this concept and through the inspired courage in Snow Sports New Zealands new CEO Ross Palmer, we are now to be known as the New Zealand Snowboard Union. It is with great pleasure that we now sit under Snow Sports New Zealand as the official governing body for Snowboarding in New Zealand.

Our vision is as follows:
"To grow, promote and support the sport of snowboarding within NZ, and achieve results and recognition at an international level."

We hope to very soon begin to deliver actions to achieves these goals. Our board has been formed and consists of members from all aspects of the Snow Industry and it is our intention to remain completely transparent with all our decision making to ensure no conflict of interest ever arises. Should this occur said board members will be removed from voting in these instances.

We have been provided with some seed money from SPARC and it is our view that this money is for investment in the future of the NZSBU and Snowboarding in New Zealand. As we are new we need to utilise this funding to create additional revenue streams and infrastructure to securely establish the NZSBU.

Our initial objectives are:
Communicate Intentions of NZSBU to Snow Industry
Launch NZSBU Branding Framework
Create NZSBU Database
Develop and Solidify 3 Year Strategic Plan

Once our 3 year plan has been completed we will begin our operations in the New Zealand snow industry and we look forward to working with all of you on our goals and objectives.

Sincerely,

The NZSBU Board of Trustees
